River port on the Courant de Mimizan, between the Atlantic beach and the Etang d'Aureilhan, in the Landes forest of New Aquitaine.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
The port sits on the Courant de Mimizan, inland from the ocean. Direct access from the Atlantic is not possible for most yachts because the river mouth is shallow, shifting and unmarked. Craft usually arrive by road or from the upstream lakes. Maximum draught 2 metres in the port itself.
Practical
Pontoon berths on the river. Water and electricity on the quays. Slipway for trailered boats. Town centre of Mimizan Plage and supermarkets within 1 km. The lake circuit continues upstream to Port Siblu at Gastes, 8 nm NE, and Port Les Sandres at Gastes, 9.3 nm NE.
Ashore
Atlantic beach of Mimizan at about 1.5 km west of the port, lifeguarded in summer. Coastal cycle route Velodyssee passes through the town. Abbey ruins of Mimizan, Unesco listed as part of the Santiago de Compostela routes in France, at about 4 km inland.
