Approach and anchoring
Approach from the south-west, keeping clear of the drying sands of the Payré estuary. Sand bottom, good holding in settled weather. Shelter from NW, N, NE and E winds. Fully exposed to the south-west, where Atlantic swell rolls straight in. Anchor outside the bathing zone during the summer season.
Practical
No services at the anchorage. Port Bourgenay marina 1.1 NM to the NW for berths, water, diesel and provisions. Jard-sur-Mer 3.5 NM to the east as an alternative port of refuge.
Ashore
Sandy beach 3 km long, one of the longest on the Vendée coast. Dinosaur footprints from the Jurassic visible on the foreshore at low water near the Pointe du Payré. Coastal path GR 364 follows the cliffs to the Pointe du Payré and the forest of the Veillon. Talmont-Saint-Hilaire and its medieval castle 4 km inland.
