Guide
Approach and anchoring
Straight open coast between Sète and the Palavas lido. Approach on soundings, gently shelving sand bottom. Exposed to the marin from SE which builds fast swell. Tramontane from NW offshore is offshore wind and leaves the anchorage flat. Stay at least 300 m from the surf line.
Practical
Open anchorage on sand, no services. Port de Frontignan-Plage 0.3 nm NW at the mouth of the Rhône canal for shelter, water and fuel. Town port of Frontignan 1.2 nm NW inside the canal.
Ashore
Frontignan-Plage resort immediately north with cafés, shops and a train halt on the Sète-Montpellier line. Vineyards of the Muscat de Frontignan appellation reach the back of the town, several cellars open for tastings within 2 km.
History
Muscat de Frontignan is a sweet wine produced from the Muscat blanc à petits grains grape with an appellation recognised since 1936. The ancient port on the Rhône canal shipped the wine to northern Europe from the 18th century onwards.
