Approach and anchoring

Entered from the canal at PK 7 east of the Balaruc bridges. A single lifting road bridge, pont levant de Frontignan, controls access and opens on fixed daily slots posted by VNF, generally six openings per day in season. Height when closed around 2,50 metres, full clearance when raised. VHF 10 for the bridge and lock operator.

Practical

Municipal pontoons along the canal in the town centre, water and shore power, harbour office at the capitainerie on quai Voltaire. Depth around 2 metres in the canal. Diesel at the Frontignan plage yard 1,5 km seaward. Train station of Frontignan on the Montpellier to Béziers line at 300 m.

Ashore

Église Saint-Paul of Frontignan, fortified XIIth century church with Romanesque apse, at 250 m from the pontoons. Muscat de Frontignan vineyards and cellars on the slopes of La Gardiole, the cave cooperative on avenue du Muscat at 600 m offers tastings. Frontignan beach and the Étang d'Ingril lagoon at 2 km by the road bridge over the canal.

History

Frontignan is an AOC muscat wine region documented since the XIVth century. The vin doux naturel de Muscat de Frontignan was granted appellation d'origine contrôlée in 1936, among the first French wines to receive the status.
