Approach and anchoring
Cobb Island lies in Neale Sound, behind a fixed bridge carrying Route 254 that links the island to the mainland. The marina is reached from the Potomac side of the sound.

History
Cobb Island was bought in 1642 by Captain James Neale, a ship captain who took Spanish treasure ships in the West Indies. The captured Spanish dollars were cut into pieces known as cobbs, which gave the island its name.
