Approach and anchoring
Monroe Bay is entered from the Potomac by a marked channel carrying about 8 ft. Floating docks with around 7 ft alongside take boats up to 100 ft.
Practical
Some 78 berths with 6 transient berths. A 25-ton travel lift handles haul-out for cleaning, painting and general maintenance. A well-stocked ship's store covers most needs, with special orders available. Contact 804 224-7644.
History
Colonial Beach was platted in 1882 as a planned Potomac resort for Washington visitors, who arrived by steamer. The town was at the centre of the Potomac oyster wars between Virginia watermen and the Maryland oyster police.
