Approach and anchoring

Oyster Bay Harbor is deep water and well sheltered on all quarters, opening onto Long Island Sound. Anchor east of the mooring field on the Oyster Bay Cove side, clear of moored craft.

Practical

Oyster Bay Marine Center lies 0.9 mile west, a full boatyard with berths, moorings and a launch service, taking transient visitors. Sagamore Yacht Club is 1 mile west.

Ashore

Oyster Bay village sits at the head of the harbour with shops and provisions. Sagamore Hill National Historic Site, the home of President Theodore Roosevelt, is about 2 miles to the north-east.

History

Oyster Bay has been a port of call since the early 1600s and was a shipbuilding centre. Theodore Roosevelt bought land at Cove Neck in 1880 and built Sagamore Hill, used as the Summer White House from 1902 to 1908.
