Approach and anchoring

Crossing the Barre d'Étel sand bar requires VHF contact with the semaphore on channel 13 for the daily waypoint, which moves with the sands. Cross at half flood with settled weather, never in swell above 1.5 m or ebb against wind. Once inside, follow the buoyed channel north to Magouër. Holding on weed, set the anchor well if on a spare berth.

Practical

Thirty-one moorings managed locally. Port of Étel 0.1 nm E across the river has the marina office, water, diesel and repair services. Shops and market in Étel village.

Ashore

Pointe du Magouër at the river mouth, sand beach and old fishermen's houses of the former tuna port. GR 34 coastal path crosses the dunes north to Plouhinec. Étel tuna and sardine heritage on show at the Musée des Thoniers in Étel across the ferry, a 10 minute passenger crossing.
