Guide
Approach and anchoring
Crossing the barre d'Étel sandbar at the mouth of the river requires a visual signal from the semaphore and is advised around slack high water. Once inside, the estuary is well sheltered from all sectors. Mud bottom, good holding on the buoy.
Practical
Pick up a buoy, do not drop the hook in the oyster beds. Port of Étel 0.4 NM SW with pontoons, fuel, water and shops. Magouer on the opposite bank 0.5 NM W for a slip and boatyard.
Ashore
Musée des Thoniers in Étel retraces the tuna fishing fleet that sailed from the river until the 1950s. Coastal footpath GR 34 reaches Plouhinec and the dune of Sainte-Barbe. Oyster and clam farms of the estuary supply several producers open to visitors.
