Guide
Approach and anchoring
Enter the Rade de Brest through the Goulet between the Pointe des Espagnols and the Pointe du Portzic. Head SE past the Île Ronde and follow the buoyed channel of the Aulne. The Pointe du Térénez is on the north bank near the entrance to the river. Tidal streams run strongly in the Goulet, plan the passage with the fair tide.
Practical
Sixteen mooring buoys laid off the point. Mud bottom with good holding if anchoring outside the field. Port de Térénez lies 0.1 nautical mile to the south with a slipway. Moulin Mer 2.2 miles to the north. No services on the moorings, nearest shops in Landévennec to the south.
Ashore
Abbey of Landévennec, founded in the 5th century by Saint Guénolé, with ruins and a monastic museum at the head of the Aulne. Forêt domaniale du Cranou 10 km to the north. The Rade de Brest and the Aulne valley lie within the Parc naturel régional d'Armorique.
History
The Aulne estuary was used as a naval anchorage for the French fleet, and several ships of the line were laid up in the Cimetière de Bateaux at Landévennec after the Second World War. Some hulls are still visible at low water upstream of Térénez.
