Reached via the Marne, on the navigable reach between Meaux and Épernay. Max draught 2 m. Low fixed bridges limit air draught on this stretch, check the VNF gauge before entry. Lock operation managed by VNF with river licence required.

Château-Thierry old town at 3 km, with the ruins of the medieval castle overlooking the Marne. Jean de La Fontaine birthplace and museum at 17 rue Jean de La Fontaine. Bois Belleau American cemetery at 10 km, site of the 1918 battle.
History
Château-Thierry grew around a castle attributed to Thierry IV in the 8th century. The town was the birthplace of the fabulist Jean de La Fontaine in 1621 and the scene of heavy fighting during the Second Battle of the Marne in July 1918.
