Guide
Approach and anchoring
Reached by the Sienne estuary from the bay of Regnéville, entrance subject to strong tidal streams of the western Cotentin with ranges exceeding 12 m in spring tides. The estuary dries over most of its length, channel shifts after storms. Access at half tide rising, local knowledge essential.
Practical
Drying berths on mud and sand. No marina services on the quay itself. Village of Regnéville with a few shops and restaurants.
Ashore
Musée des Fours à Chaux du Rey, the restored lime kilns on the south bank, is 1 km from the harbour and documents the 19th century lime trade to Brittany. Ruins of the medieval castle of Regnéville stand above the village at 500 m. GR223 Sentier des Douaniers follows the coast.
History
Regnéville was a significant port for lime and granite exports from the 14th to 19th centuries. The bay silted over the 19th century and commercial traffic ceased. Hérel marina at Granville lies 10.3 NM south as the nearest all-tide refuge.
