Guide

Approach and anchoring

Access only near high water through a shifting sandy channel marked by withies. Strong tidal streams run in and out of the estuary, so plan the approach on a rising tide. Bottom dries out at low water, so boats must be able to take the ground or anchor further offshore on sand.

Practical

Open mooring off the Club Nautique de Régneville. Water tap ashore at the club. No fuel, no chandlery. Village shops for basic provisions within a few hundred metres of the slipway.

Ashore

Ruins of the medieval Château de Regnéville above the village, open to visitors. Musée des Ardoisières de Cormont 3 km inland covers the local slate quarries. Long tidal sand flats used for foot fishing at low water.

History

Régneville was one of the main limestone export harbours of the Cotentin from the 15th to the 19th century. Kilns along the shore produced lime shipped to Brittany and the Channel Islands until the railway ended the trade around 1880.
