Approach and anchoring
The North Cove has seven mooring buoys, kept year-round, and 128 feet of dock moorage; the dock is lifted out from early October to early April. Anchoring is good in both coves over a sand bottom. A marked reef lies at the north-east entrance to North Cove, with charted rocks along the south-eastern shore.
Practical
No fuel and no shore power. In settled high pressure, northerly winds can build a rough chop in North Cove; in low pressure, southerlies reach into South Cove. Summer brings heavy boat traffic and steady wash through both coves.
Ashore
Park trails cross the island between the two coves, with deer often seen close to the campsites. Deer Harbor on Orcas Island, with provisions and a marina, lies about 1.8 nautical miles east.
