Largest marina on Orcas Island, in the lee of Picnic Island at the head of West Sound, San Juan Islands.

Guide

Approach and anchoring

Enter West Sound from President Channel between Orcas Island and Crane Island. The sound runs roughly north-east into Orcas, with deep water and few hazards once past the islands at the entrance. Marina lies on the east shore, sheltered from all but strong southerlies.

Practical

180 year-round berths plus 400 ft of visitor pontoon. Fuel berth with diesel and petrol, pump-out, the largest chandlery in San Juan County, full boatyard with 30-ton travel lift, indoor and outdoor dry storage. Owned by the Wareham family since 1974, established 1950.

Ashore

Orcas Island Yacht Club next door. West Sound Cafe and general store 250 m up the road. Eastsound village with shops, restaurants and grocery 8 km north-east by car. Kenmore Air seaplanes link the dock directly to Seattle.

History

Founded in 1950, the marina is the oldest full-service yard in the San Juan Islands and has remained in the same family since 1974.
