Mooring buoy field on the Eightmile River at Lyme, about eight miles up the Connecticut River from Long Island Sound.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Reached from the Connecticut River by the marked entrance to the Eightmile River, then a winding channel into the broad outer cove. Anchoring is not practical because moorings fill the basin and tidal current limits swing-room. Wooded hills enclose the cove and shelter it from wind on all sides.
Practical
Visitor moorings can often be hired through Cove Landing Marine in the inner cove, 0.8 miles north-east. The Hamburg Cove Yacht Club lies the same distance north-east. A local custom allows picking up an empty mooring provided the crew stay aboard and give it up if the owner returns.
