Approach and anchoring
Approach between Île du Large and Île de Terre on a slack tide, strong streams of up to 3 knots run between the two islands. Rock bottom, holding is uncertain, keep an anchor watch. Protection from NW, N and W; exposed to E and SE.
Practical
Uninhabited fort island, no services and no landing on the fort itself which is listed under the Monuments Historiques. Saint-Vaast-la-Hougue marina at 7.2 NM NW offers lock access and a full service pontoon. Quinéville has a drying harbour at 5.8 NM W.
History
The Îles Saint-Marcouf were fortified by Vauban and later strengthened under Napoleon. The fort on Île du Large dates from 1803 to 1812 and was briefly occupied by the British Royal Navy between 1795 and 1802.
