Beach

Approach and anchoring

Approach through the chenal des Bluiniers from the NW, or from the S keeping well clear of the banc de la Pie. Sand bottom, good holding. Shelter from N through NE to NW. Open to S and SE, untenable in a southerly.

Practical

Forain anchorage with no facilities. Visitors' moorings off Île Saint-Nicolas 0.6 NM NW, where the école de voile des Glénans and a summer restaurant are based. Port de Trévignon on the mainland 7.4 NM NE for full services.

Ashore

Île Cigogne holds an 18th century fort built under Louis XV against Breton pirates, now used by the école de voile des Glénans. Île Saint-Nicolas 0.6 NM NW has the Narcisse des Glénan conservatory and turquoise sand beaches.

History

The fort on Île Cigogne was built between 1756 and 1763 to suppress smugglers using the Glénan as a base, and restored by the sailing school from 1947 onwards.
