Marina of around 1 000 berths at the head of the Anse de la Forêt, on the commune of Fouesnant in south Finistère.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Entrance from the Baie de la Forêt, sheltered inside by the Cap Coz sandspit to the east. Channel marked by lateral buoys and dredged, usable at all states of tide for most cruising draughts. VHF 9 for the capitainerie. Beware of the Men ar Vir shallows when rounding Beg Meil from the west.
Practical
Four pontoon basins plus a visitors pontoon near the capitainerie. Diesel berth, water and electricity on pontoons, sanitary block with showers, 35 t travel lift and a full boatyard. Shops, bakery and restaurants around the marina basin. Chandlery and sailmaker on site.
Ashore
Coastal path GR 34 runs both sides of the bay, round to Cap Coz beach at about 1 km and on to Beg Meil at around 8 km. Forest of Penfoulic, a coastal wooded nature site, borders the north side of the marina. Market in central Fouesnant, 4 km inland.
History
Port-la-Forêt was dug out of the salt marshes and opened in 1973. Since 1991 it has hosted the Pôle Finistère Course au Large, the offshore racing training centre where skippers such as Michel Desjoyeaux, Franck Cammas and Armel Le Cléac'h have prepared Vendée Globe and Jules Verne campaigns.
Story
The IMOCA, Ultim and Class40 fleets based at the Pôle regularly train on the Glénan plateau, 10 nm offshore, so visiting crews often share the channel with foiling race boats returning to their berths.
