Approach and anchoring
Two free docks flank the SR 168 Battlefield Boulevard bridge: Dock 1 north-west, Dock 2 about 200 ft long south-east. Max draught 2.3 m. The Great Bridge lock sits just south on the Albemarle and Chesapeake Canal.
Practical
Four free berths, 24-hour stay strictly enforced by the city. No power, water or pump-out. A full-size grocery store and several restaurants lie within a few hundred yards. Top Rack Marina is 3 nm west and Atlantic Yacht Basin sits close to the lock.
Ashore
Great Bridge Battlefield and Waterways History Museum is steps from Dock 1. The battlefield marks the first American victory of the Revolutionary War on 9 December 1775. Walking loop around the marsh and interpretive signs along the park.
History
The 1775 engagement at Great Bridge forced British forces and Governor Dunmore out of Virginia, opening Norfolk to Patriot militias weeks later.
