Approach and anchoring

Approach from the west across the bay with care for rocky foul ground along the foot of the cliffs. Rock bottom with poor holding, depths drop quickly to 10 metres. Shelter only from the E to SE, fully open to the prevailing westerlies. Not tenable overnight in any westerly wind. Port du Havre-Antifer 4 NM to the SW and Port de Fécamp 7.2 NM to the NE are the nearest refuges.

Practical

Day stop only in settled easterly weather, by anchor or pick-up of the seasonal yellow buoys laid by the commune. No services at the beach. Fécamp and Le Havre hold the nearest fuel and visitor berths.

Ashore

Shingle beach of Étretat lies under the cliffs with restaurants along the Boulevard Président René Coty. Clifftop path of the GR 21 climbs to the Falaise d'Amont and the Chapelle Notre-Dame-de-la-Garde, and to the arch of Aval and the Aiguille, all painted by Monet, Courbet and Boudin in the 19th century.
