Anchorage in Biscayne Bay off South Beach, just inside Government Cut, with a sand bottom.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Reached through Government Cut, the main ocean entrance to Miami at South Beach, with no fixed bridges and deep water throughout. Strong tidal flow runs in the cut, so anchor clear of the channel and the megayacht traffic to PortMiami. Open to winds from south-east through west.
Practical
Sand bottom gives fair holding. Florida anchoring rules now cap any one spot at 30 nights per six months and bar anchoring within 300 ft of a public mooring field. Miami Beach Marina lies 0.8 nm NE with fuel, berths and facilities; One Island Park Marina is 0.9 nm N on the MacArthur Causeway.
Ashore
South Beach is a short tender run from the anchorage, with shops, restaurants and a wide ocean beach along Ocean Drive. The Art Deco Historic District around Collins Avenue holds several hundred preserved buildings from the 1920s to 1940s.
