Member-owned dinghy sailing club on the south bank of the Cooper River in Cooper River Park, Collingswood, New Jersey, 7 miles inland from the Delaware River.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
The Cooper River is a tidal tributary of the Delaware. The club water is dammed downstream and forms a 2-mile flatwater stretch within the park, used for racing and rowing. Access by trailer from South Park Drive. VHF 72.
Practical
Clubhouse, ramp and dinghy storage. Sunfish, Laser and GP-14 fleets race on Sundays from May to October, with a Laser and Sunfish frostbite series in November. Youth sailing programme and community sailing for non-boat-owners.
Ashore
Cooper River Park itself, 346 acres around the river, with a 3.8-mile loop path used by runners and cyclists. Camden waterfront and Adventure Aquarium roughly 5 miles west on the Delaware.
History
Founded in 1945 by sailors led by Harry Chandler, a New England transplant who started the first races on the river that same year.
