Approach and anchoring
The club sits on the New Jersey bank of the upper Delaware, about 12 miles upstream of central Philadelphia. The river is unobstructed here and runs deep in the main channel, though shoals build along both banks at low water. Working VHF channel 72.
Practical
Members keep boats on the club moorings and floats off the pier. Visitor space is limited and arranged in advance through the club. Quaker City Yacht Club lies 0.7 mile to the north-west, Wissinoming Yacht Club 1.5 miles to the west.
History
The Riverton Yacht Club was organised on 1 July 1865 by a group of yacht owners meeting at Edward H. Ogden's house. It is the oldest yacht club on the Delaware and one of the oldest in the United States. The clubhouse on the pier dates from 1880 and once doubled as the ticket office and waiting room for the Philadelphia steamboat.
