Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach from the east along the coast of Les Sablettes. Fonds de roche, plunging to 40 metres near the cliff. The cape is notorious for accelerated winds as the mistral wraps around the massif. Only usable in a settled north to north-west wind, untenable as soon as the swell turns south.
Practical
No facilities. Nearest shelter is Saint-Elme 2.4 NM north-east or Le Lazaret 2.7 NM north-east, both inside the Rade des Vignettes with pontoon berths and fuel at Saint-Mandrier.
Ashore
Chapel of Notre-Dame-du-Mai on the summit, ex-voto collection documented since the 16th century. GR 51 coastal path runs the length of the cliffs from Le Brusc to Les Sablettes, 12 km of marked trail with steep sections.
History
The cape was a signal and watch post during the Napoleonic wars. The Janas forest on its northern slope was replanted from 1886 after severe erosion.
