Approach and anchoring
Approach from the Iroise Sea leaving the Pointe du Toulinguet to the north, then the Sillon spit to port. Breakwater head lit, maximum draught 6 m at the visitors pontoon. Exposed to NE winds when blowing hard. VHF 9, capitainerie open year-round.
Practical
Around 800 berths across Port Vauban and the Notic basin, water and electricity, diesel on the fuel berth. Boatyard with travel hoist and winter storage on hard. Supermarket, bakeries and chandlery within 300 m of the quays.
Ashore
Tour Vauban at the tip of the Sillon, built in 1696 by the military engineer Vauban and inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list in 2008, stands 100 m from the pontoons. Alignements de Lagatjar megalithic stones at 1.5 km west on the road to Pen-Hir. GR34 coastal path to the Pointe de Pen-Hir cliffs in 3 km.
History
Camaret was the site of a Franco-English naval battle in June 1694 where the Vauban tower repelled an Anglo-Dutch landing, and it later became the first European langoustine port in the 1950s.
