Guide

Approach and anchoring

Approach from the west between the Pointe du Toulinguet and the Tas de Pois rocks then round the Sillon. Sand bottom, holding reported as good on the ridge north of the Sillon. Shelter from E through S to W. Open to N and NW which are the prevailing wind swells on this coast. VHF 9 for Port Vauban and the Bassin du Nautique.

Practical

Space for around 20 boats on the anchorage. Water on Port Vauban quay at 0.2 nm. Bakery, grocery, ship chandler and four restaurants on the Sillon quay within 300 metres of the landing.

Ashore

Tour Vauban on the Sillon, built 1689 to 1696 under Vauban, listed on the UNESCO world heritage list in 2008 as part of the twelve Vauban fortifications. Alignments of Lagatjar, 143 standing stones, at 1.5 km on foot. GR34 coastal path to the Pointe de Pen-Hir cliffs at 3.5 km.

History

The English and Dutch fleet of Admiral Berkeley was repelled here on 18 June 1694 by Vauban himself, firing the guns of the unfinished tower. The painter Eugène Boudin worked in the bay in the 1870s.
