Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach from the south, keep clear of the rocks off Cap Morgiou to the east and the Pointe de la Melette to the west. Sand and algae bottom, depths 6 to 12 metres near the head. Sheltered from NW through N, NE, W and SW. Swell from the south and SE rolls straight in.
Ashore
Sentier des Calanques links Sormiou to Morgiou via the Col de la Selle in about 45 minutes. Restaurant Le Château at the head of the calanque serves lunch in season. Road access is closed to cars in summer so the beach stays quieter than Marseille city beaches.
History
Sormiou has around 130 cabanons, fishing huts built by Marseille families through the 19th and early 20th centuries, now protected within the national park created in 2012.
