Approach and anchoring
The reserve runs along the Point Loma shore over a span of about 1 mile, with depths from 0 to 30 feet. The bottom is rock, sandstone and boulder fields, with poor holding. Open to the south and west, sheltered only from north and east. Heavy traffic in and out of San Diego Bay nearby.
Practical
Kona Kai Marina lies 2.6 nautical miles north and Southwestern Yacht Club 2.8 nautical miles north, both inside San Diego Bay with full services.
Ashore
The Cabrillo National Monument sits on the headland above the reserve, marking the 1542 landfall of Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo. Tide pools and a coastal trail run along the Point Loma shore.
