Approach and anchoring
Approach from the Rance entrance, leaving the Grand Jardin lighthouse to starboard then heading SW towards Dinard. Strong tidal streams in the estuary, up to 4 knots on the ebb. VHF 9. Well protected on all sectors by the surrounding shoreline and by Saint-Malo to the NE.
Practical
460 berths on buoys and pontoons managed by the port of Dinard. Water and electricity on the pontoons. Fuel berth at Saint-Malo Les Sablons, 1.1 NM NE. Showers and capitainerie on shore.
Ashore
Promenade du Clair de Lune along the seafront from the port to Pointe du Moulinet, about 1 km, with views across to Saint-Malo ramparts. Plage de l'Écluse with its striped bathing tents 500 m west. Ferry link to Saint-Malo from the Cale de Dinard runs year-round. Villa Les Roches Brunes and the 1920s casino face the bay.
History
Dinard grew from a fishing hamlet into a seaside resort from the 1850s under British and American patronage. Queen Victoria's son Leopold, the Prince of Wales and later Lawrence of Arabia stayed here, and more than 400 villas built between 1870 and 1930 are listed in the national ZPPAUP heritage inventory.
