Marina of 1200 berths in the bay of Saint-Servan, on the south side of Saint-Malo opposite the walled city.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach from the Rance estuary after clearing the Môle des Noires and rounding the Tour Solidor point. Entry channel marked by red and green buoys, with a sill retaining water at chart datum plus 2 m. Max draught 2 m at the pontoons. Strong tidal streams in the estuary, up to 4 knots at springs. VHF channel 9.
Practical
1200 berths, about 60 for visitors. Water and electricity on all pontoons. Fuel berth with diesel and petrol. Showers, toilets, laundry, capitainerie open year round. Shipyard and 30 t travel lift on site. Shops of Saint-Servan at 400 m, Intra-Muros walled city 25 minutes on foot.
Ashore
Tour Solidor, a 14th century keep housing the Cap-Horniers museum, is 400 m from the pontoons. The GR34 coastal path runs along the Aleth corniche to the Grand Bé islet, burial place of Chateaubriand, accessible on foot at low water. Intra-Muros walled city is 2 km north on foot.
History
The marina was built in 1983 in the former tidal basin of Saint-Servan, a separate commune until its merger with Saint-Malo in 1967. Saint-Servan itself occupies the site of Aleth, the Gallo-Roman capital of the Coriosolites tribe.
Story
Tidal range in the bay reaches 13 m at spring tides, one of the largest in Europe, which is why the marina needed a retaining sill to remain afloat.
