Approach and anchoring
Approach from the goulet de Brest. Mud and sand bottom, good holding. Sheltered from the E, SW and W; open to N and NE winds. Tidal streams in the goulet are strong, plan arrival near slack water.
Practical
No services on site. Camaret Port Vauban 2,6 NM to the SW for berths, water and shops. Camaret Bassin du Nautique 2,7 NM to the SW for the visitors pontoons.
Ashore
Pointe des Espagnols, 2 km to the north, overlooks the goulet de Brest and carries Vauban-era fortifications. Tour Vauban of Camaret, built 1689 to 1696 and listed by UNESCO as part of the Fortifications of Vauban in 2008, is 3 km by road from the anchorage area.
History
The island was used as a cholera burial ground in 1849, which gave it its present name.
