Guide
Approach and anchoring
Enter on a NE heading keeping clear of the rocks off the southern tip of Mezu Mare. Bottom is sand with patches of Posidonia, so back down to confirm the anchor is set in sand rather than on weed. Protected from E through W round the south, open to N and NW.
Practical
Drop in 5 to 10 metres. No services. Closest refuge is Porto Pollo 5.6 NM to the SE in the Gulf of Valinco; Port Tino Rossi in Ajaccio lies 10.5 NM to the N round the headland.
Ashore
The Îles Sanguinaires are a Natura 2000 site and a protected area under the Conservatoire du Littoral. Landing on Mezu Mare is allowed on foot with access to the 1870s Sémaphore and the Genoese tower. Alphonse Daudet stayed at the tower in 1863 and described it in Lettres de mon moulin.
