Anchorage off Third Beach at Middletown, Rhode Island, on the west side of the entrance to the Sakonnet River, on sand and mud.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Holding is on sand and mud. The site is open to the east and exposed to swell rolling in from Rhode Island Sound; protection covers the western and southern sectors. The mooring field is run by the Middletown Harbour Master, and anchoring needs the harbour master's approval.
Practical
Sakonnet Point Marina is 2.5 miles SE and Sakonnet Yacht Club 2.6 miles SE. Ashore there is a boat ramp with picnic tables, grills and a shade structure.
Ashore
Third Beach itself is an east-facing swimming beach reached straight from the anchorage by tender. The beach is a recognised birding spot near the mouth of the Sakonnet River, with equipment rentals by the boat ramp.
