Marina of 734 berths on the south side of the Gulf of Saint-Tropez, eastern Var coast.

Guide

Approach and anchoring

Approach from the east across the gulf, clear of the shoals off Pampelonne. Entrance between the Môle Jean Réveille and the outer breakwater, marked by red and green lights. Beware of the mistral funnelling from the NW and of heavy traffic in summer, and note that room to manoeuvre inside the basin is tight. Max draught 3.5 m. Report on VHF 9 and a harbour launch meets arrivals to hand the lines, with assistance holding up even in gusts over 30 knots.

Practical

734 berths, fuel berth at the pier head, water and electricity on all pontoons, showers and toilets at the capitainerie. Berths are booked online and confirmation may not arrive until the day of arrival. Power adapters can be borrowed free from the harbour office. Berthing is among the dearest on the coast. Boatyard with travel lift on site. All shops and banks within 200 m. Sainte-Maxime 2.1 NM to the N and Port du Pilon 0.3 NM SW serve as alternatives.

Ashore

Citadelle of Saint-Tropez and its maritime museum 500 m east of the port, with views over the gulf. Musée de l'Annonciade by the harbour holds works by Signac, Bonnard and Matisse. Plage des Graniers 600 m east, first of the coastal path leading to Cap Camarat. A Provençal market fills the town on Saturday mornings, and the waterfront hosts free evening concerts in summer.

History

Former fishing village that became an artists' colony after Paul Signac settled there in 1892. The town was liberated on 15 August 1944 during Operation Dragoon, the Allied landings in Provence.

Story

Brigitte Bardot filmed Et Dieu créa la femme here in 1956, turning the harbour into a global reference for Riviera yachting.
