Approach and anchoring

Approach from the N along the Saint-Tropez shore. The bottom is mostly weed over sand and rock and shoals quickly close inshore, so clear sand is hard to find and holding is variable, with boats dragging in 20 knots and more. Several white mooring buoys lie here, some private and one reserved for the French Navy, their condition uncertain. Shelter from SE through S to W; open to the N and NE, untenable in a tramontane or easterly swell. The wash of boats crossing the gulf sets up a heavy roll through the day that calms at night.

Practical

Forain anchorage with no facilities. A wastewater plant behind the point can carry odours at night, and the water is not always clean for swimming. The Anse des Canebiers just to the north lies better sheltered from the gulf swell. Saint-Tropez 0.7 NM W for water, fuel, provisions and all services. Port du Pilon 0.9 NM W for small craft berths.

Ashore

Plage des Graniers, the closest beach to the village, 300 m W below the point; land the tender at the beach near the restaurant, as the pontoon is reserved for the shuttle, with the village a 10 to 15 minute walk. The beach restaurant is good but needs booking ahead, and music from it can run late at weekends. Sentier du littoral starts at the beach and runs south round the peninsula for 11 km to Cap Camarat and the Plage de Tahiti. Cimetière marin de Saint-Tropez just above the anchorage, where Roger Vadim and the writer Émile Ollivier are buried.
