Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach from the NE through the Baie de Saint-Tropez, with no off-lying dangers. The bottom is mainly sticky mud and clay with posidonia patches; holding is generally very good, though the mud can grip an anchor hard enough to need help freeing it. Anchor inside the line of yellow buoys, in the Saint-Tropez zone rather than the prohibited area beyond, in about 6 to 15 metres. Shelter from SW through SE, exposed to the NE mistral and E winds which build a heavy chop. It rolls by day in the wash of passing yachts and tenders, easing at night.
Practical
Land the tender at Saint-Tropez harbour, where a public dinghy spot exists but is often taken by superyachts, so the boscos point out a berth; approach cautiously as it is shallow. Port du Pilon 0.4 NM E is a short tender run with a 10 minute walk into town, or land on the beach and walk the waterfront. Berths in Saint-Tropez are hard to book in season, even weeks ahead.
Ashore
Plage de la Bouillabaisse has beach restaurants and is linked to Saint-Tropez town centre by the waterfront walk, about 20 minutes on foot to Place des Lices and the old port. The coastal footpath around Cap Saint-Tropez makes a fine walk from the town. Bus line 7601 from the RDTV network runs along the D98A to Sainte-Maxime and the ferry landings.
