Guide
Approach and anchoring
Open approach from the south-west. Holding is mixed sand and rock, drop on clear sand patches in 4 to 11 metres, but the sand does not always bite and the anchor can drag, so stay wary when the wind shifts. Watch the outcropping rocks close to the beach. The cove is small, room for only two or three boats. Sheltered from NW through N to W winds, fully exposed to the south-western libeccio, and it turns uncomfortable overnight when a sea builds, so treat it as a fair-weather stop. Port de Sagone lies 0.3 NM NE for refuge if the wind veers south.
Practical
No services at the anchorage itself. A small pontoon at the south of the bay gives dinghy access to a Spar, bakery and restaurants, and the port opposite is about 10 minutes by tender. Village of Sagone 0.3 NM to the NE with small shops, bakery and several restaurants along the beachfront. Fuel, water and visitor berths at Port de Sagone. Cargèse harbour 4.2 NM to the west as an alternative shelter.
Ashore
Sagone beach runs along the head of the bay, with direct access by tender. Roman archaeological site of Saint-Appien cathedral ruins on the north shore of the gulf, about 1 km from the village. Coastal path north towards the Pointe de Cargèse.
