Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach from open sea on sandy bottom with gradual depths, and sound ahead of the entry as the river bar shifts with floods and swell. Exposed to the SE and to tramontane gusts, sheltered elsewhere. Up the river the channel narrows into a tight but well-sheltered refuge in heavy weather: anchor mid-stream on a short scope, keep well clear of the anti-salt dam, mind the strong current, and watch an overhead power line about 10 metres high some 800 metres downstream of the dam.
Practical
Forain anchorage with no services on the bar itself. A run-down pontoon on the east bank carries around 1.2 metres but has no water or power, and a fee of about 24 euros has been charged for it. Water and pontoons are available 0.7 nm SE at Cabanes de Fleury on the river, and 0.8 nm E at Port Chichoulet at Vendres.
Ashore
Regional nature reserve of the lower Aude valley immediately inland, with reedbeds and flamingo lagoons. Long sand beach of Les Cabanes de Fleury extends north and south. Village of Fleury d'Aude at about 4 km has a weekly market.
