Approach and anchoring

Open approach from the south and south-east. Sand throughout with good holding, firm even in strong winds. Anchor in about 4.5 metres just outside the swim zone and the 300-metre limit. A breakwater off the beach knocks down the sea in N and NW winds, making an overnight stay possible. Sheltered from NW through N and W to SW, exposed to easterly and south-easterly winds which build a quick swell in this shallow bay. Port Chichoulet 0.6 NM to the NW for refuge.

Practical

No services at the mooring. Port Chichoulet marina 0.6 NM NW with water, fuel and visitor berths. Hamlet of Cabanes de Fleury 0.7 NM NW at the mouth of the Aude, with a few seasonal restaurants.

Ashore

Chichoulet beach runs directly behind the anchorage, with the Le Chichoulet beach restaurant serving tapas and hiring sun loungers. Étang de Vendres wetland reserve lies inland, a Natura 2000 bird area. Cabanes de Fleury fishing hamlet, traditional wooden shacks on the Aude estuary, is about 1 km along the coast path.
