Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach from the north-east in settled weather, keeping clear of the Finocchiarola reserve islets to the east. Come in slowly, as Posidonia lies on the way before the bottom opens to clear sand near the beach, where boats can anchor close in 3 to 5 metres on good holding, and anchor on sand only as anchoring on the weed is fined. Shelter from SE to W, exposed to north and east winds, and being open it rolls in any swell or passing wash. Jellyfish are often present.
Practical
No services. Macinaggio lies 2 NM south with full marina services, Barcaggio 2.2 NM west for a simple stopover.
Ashore
Réserve naturelle des Îles Finocchiarola 0.5 NM east, landing forbidden between 1 March and 31 August for seabird breeding. Sentier des Douaniers coastal path accessible from the beach, with Cap Corse heathland and Genoese tower of Santa Maria 1.5 km west.
History
The Tour de Santa Maria, half collapsed into the sea, was built by the Genoese in 1549 and damaged by a British warship in 1793 during the Corsican campaign.
