Approach and anchoring

Approach from the south along the Porto-Vecchio fairway, with shallow patches marked by buoys, and keep clear of the marina channel. The bottom is mud with patches of weed; it holds well once set for some, but several crews have failed to get a good grip, especially in late summer, and the water is too murky to read the bottom. Constant motorboat wash keeps it stirred and can work the anchor loose. Exposure is open to the NE and E, so swell enters on a sirocco, and gusts can funnel hard into the bay.

Practical

The anchorage is mainly a stop to provision and visit Porto-Vecchio. Land the dinghy on the beach north of the small motorboat harbour, from where a Géant Casino supermarket is about 500 metres on foot; the marina can point out a landing spot. Water point on shore. Marina di Fiori lies 0.4 NM to the north for berths, fuel and provisioning. Quilichi cove is 0.3 NM to the west as an alternative shelter.

Ashore

The old citadel of Porto-Vecchio stands above the town, with its ramparts over the gulf.
