Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach from the rade de Brest side, rounding the Pointe du Grand Gouin. Sand bottom, good holding in settled weather. The anchorage is a little narrow, with rocky patches to both the west and the east, so leave room to swing and drop on clear sand. Shelter from SE through S to SW. Fully exposed to swell from the north and west sectors of the Iroise sea.
Practical
No facilities. Camaret-sur-Mer harbour lies 0.7 nm east, Port Vauban 0.9 nm east for berths, water, diesel and shops.
Ashore
Walk to the Tour Vauban at Camaret, classified UNESCO world heritage as part of the Vauban fortifications network since 2008. Landing by tender is onto a pebble beach, below the cliff crowned by the Pointe du Toulinguet. Alignements de Lagatjar, a neolithic standing stone site, at roughly 1.5 km from the anchorage.
