Anchorage off the Corréjou beach in the bay of Camaret-sur-Mer, on the west side of the Crozon peninsula, Finistère.

Approach and anchoring

Sand with patches of kelp and weed, holding good on clean sand though it can take a couple of tries to bite through the weed. The bay is thick with fishing floats, so keep a lookout when choosing a spot. Wash from the island ferry, fishing boats and speedboats sets up a roll. Exposed to S, SW and W, sheltered from N and NE behind the Sillon de Camaret. Approach from the Goulet de Brest, then round the Pointe du Toulinguet clear of its off-lying rocks. Night approach not advised inside the bay.

Practical

Day anchorage only, no services on the beach. Camaret-sur-Mer harbour at 0.2 NM to the S and Port Vauban marina at 0.4 NM to the SE for berths, water, diesel and the harbourmaster. Large wash and dry machines at the inner harbour office, card payment and open around the clock.

Ashore

Tour Vauban at the end of the Sillon, built from 1689 to 1696, UNESCO listed since 2008. GR34 coastal path along the shore to the alignments of Lagatjar at 1 km and on to the Pointe de Pen-Hir with its sea stacks at 3 km. A supermarket with a fuel station and bakeries stand within walking distance in the village, and the crêperie La Marine is a short walk away.

History

The bay was the site of the English and Dutch landing attempt of 18 June 1694, repelled by Vauban's coastal batteries, the event that justified the later construction of the tour.
