Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach from the west, clear of dangers in deep water. Round the Capo Rosso headland wide to avoid the wind acceleration under the cliffs. Sand and rock bottom, holding variable on the rocky patches. The centre of the bay is largely taken up by the beach restaurants' mooring buoys, which leaves swinging room tight, so anchor free on the sand at the eastern side or off the south near the channel in about 3 to 13 m, as the western side is rocky and holds poorly. Shelter from N, NE, E and NW. Fully exposed to the W and SW swell.
Practical
No marine services ashore. The beach restaurants lay white and red mooring buoys taken in exchange for a dinner booking; the fee of about 20 euros a night covers help onto the buoy, an unlimited tender shuttle to and from the beach, use of the restaurant toilets and showers, rubbish and a water top-up. Book by phone or on VHF 72, and groceries can be delivered to the boat if arranged the night before. Nearest refuges are Cargèse 4.5 nm south and Porto-Ota 6.3 nm north-east. Leave in good time if the wind backs into the west.
Ashore
Long sand beach at the head of the bay, backed by maquis. The beach restaurants, among them Le Casabianca and L'Onda, open in summer, and there are no shops. Coastal path towards the Capo Rosso Genoese tower, about 2 hours walk on foot from the beach.
