Rocky cove on the west coast of Corsica, between the Golfe de Porto and the Golfe de Sagone, south of the Scandola reserve.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Daytime approach from the open sea, no night lighting. There are two anchorages: the eastern one has the larger sand area and better shelter, the western cove is smaller and holding there can fail. Water is clear enough to pick out the sand between posidonia and rock, or use a seabed app; anchor in 6 to 10 metres and beware rock heads that rise quickly. Even in calm weather the anchorage turns very rolly with any west to south-west swell, so leave if it sets in.
Practical
No infrastructure ashore. Refuge at Porto-Ota 5.9 nm east or Cargèse 6 nm south for fuel, water and supplies. Good weather stop only.
Ashore
A well-kept gravel path climbs to the Genoese tower of Turghju on Capu Rossu, about 1 hour 15 to 1 hour 30 up, with a wide view from the top. The red porphyry Calanche di Piana are a short dinghy run of about 1 NM, best in early afternoon once the tour boats thin. Scandola nature reserve entrance lies roughly 10 NM north, a UNESCO site.
