Harbour of 450 berths in Lorient roadstead, up to 3.5 m draught, opposite Locmiquélic. VHF 9.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Port-Louis lies in the well-sheltered Lorient roadstead, opposite Locmiquélic, with up to 3.5 m draught and a little more water than the charts suggest at the pontoon ends. Call on VHF 9 and a tender comes out to show the berth and help with the lines. Deep-draught boats are best kept to the ends of the pontoons.
Practical
450 berths with clean modern sanitary blocks, hot water and waste sorting. The office lends bikes free of charge, handy for the supermarket 10 to 15 minutes away. A Saturday morning market, with a bakery, cheesemonger and butcher in the town but no large food shop. A bus runs to Lorient every 30 minutes and a passenger ferry crosses to Lorient and on to Groix. Around 30 euros for an 11 m boat, near 50 euros for 14 m.
Ashore
The walled Citadelle de Port-Louis and its ramparts walk stand beside the marina, with the town centre and beaches a five-minute walk away. Restaurants by the harbour include La Cantina and a guinguette opposite the pontoons serving scampi and fried sardines. The harbour ferry reaches Lorient, the Cité de la Voile and the submarine base at La Base.
