Approach and anchoring

Enter Lorient harbour by the marked channel, leaving the Île Saint-Michel to starboard. Sainte-Catherine lies on the east side of the harbour, entrance between two breakwaters. Maximum draught 3 m. VHF 9. Strong tidal streams in the Courreaux at springs.

Practical

475 berths on pontoons. Water, electricity, roomy showers and laundry. Boatyard with 27-tonne travel lift. Waste pump-out. The harbour office posts the evening list of free berths and allocates places, which spares the visitor pontoon A, disturbed from early morning by the intra-harbour launches. Reckon on around 35 euros a night, dearer than the other Lorient marinas. Passenger ferry Batobus to Lorient centre from the adjacent pier, first departure around 07:00. Free bikes lent by the port. Bakery, butcher and a Carrefour City in Locmiquelic at 350 m, and the Cocci Market delivers orders over 30 euros free three afternoons a week.

Ashore

Two bar-restaurants stand opposite the marina. Sentier cotier from the port to Fort Pen Mane and the Natura 2000 wetland at 1 km. Port-Louis and its Vauban citadel housing the Musee de la Compagnie des Indes, reachable by ferry in 10 minutes. Plage de Pen-Er at 700 m walking.

History

Locmiquélic grew as a fishing parish of the Riantec lands before becoming independent in 1919. The Sainte-Catherine chapel at the port dates from the 17th century and gave its name to the anchorage.
