Approach and anchoring
Located on the south side of the Gâvres peninsula facing Port-Louis across the Courreaux. Access from the main Lorient channel with attention to the strong tidal stream between Gâvres and the Citadelle de Port-Louis. VHF 9. The bay is largely filled by the 8 mooring buoys, leaving little room to anchor between them. The sand holds well and takes the ground evenly, so boats drawing up to about 2 m can sit safely at low water, as the local trawlers do.

8 anchoring spots on sand. Small port of Ban-Gâvres 0.1 NM west for shore landing. Port-Louis 0.6 NM north for provisions and historic harbour.

Fishing village of Gâvres with the Musée des Thoniers a short walk from the anchorage. Long sandy beach of Gâvres on the open sea side of the peninsula, across 300 m of dune.
