River marina of 173 berths at the head of the navigable Trieux, 6 NM upstream from Lézardrieux, in the Côtes-d'Armor.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
From the mouth of the Trieux between Bréhat and the Sillon de Talbert, follow the buoyed channel past Lézardrieux. A lock at Pontrieux holds water in the basin, working about 2 hours 15 either side of high water at Le Légué, subject to coefficient. VHF channel 12 for the lock-keeper. Air draught is limited by the Lézardrieux viaduct at 17 m above high water springs. The basin and the reach between lock and visitor pontoon have silted, so the charted 2 m is optimistic: the pontoon often carries around 1.5 m or less and a deeper draught can ground in soft mud and draw silt into the engine intakes. Call ahead and sound in.
Practical
173 berths in a freshwater retained basin. Water, electricity and a sanitary block with washing machines. Staff are not always present, so phone the harbour office ahead to be sure of a welcome on arrival. All shops in the town centre within 200 m of the quay. Closest refuges: Lézardrieux 5.4 NM NE and Tréguier 5.5 NM NW.
Ashore
Walking path along the Trieux towpath to the viaduct and the Château de la Roche-Jagu, a fortified manor from the 15th century at 4 km downstream. Pontrieux station links the town to Paimpol and Guingamp via the Paimpol branch line. The market is held every Monday morning on place Le Trocquer.
History
Pontrieux was a trading port for flax, linen and cider from the 17th to the 19th century, with warehouses and lavoirs still visible along the quays and the Trieux banks. Fifty washhouses survive on the waterfront, the highest concentration in Brittany.
